The Sustainability and Environmental Affairs office develops, implements, and supports sustainability initiatives that achieve environmental, social, and economic goals throughout the campus community, College operations, and the community at large. The office works in many different ways, from supporting independent student research projects to helping administrators and facilities staff with green campus infrastructure, such as the biomass gasification plant, to providing faculty workshops on integrating sustainability into the curriculum. The staff also conducts an annual greenhouse gas inventory that tracks Middlebury’s carbon emissions, as well as a College-wide assessment of progress every few years.
