MiddWorks for Vermont Summer 2026 - Intern at Willowell Foundation
Please note: Your résumé MUST be approved by a CCI Peer Career Advisor in order to apply in Handshake. (If your résumé was approved last year and updated with new experiences, it remains valid.)
The Middlebury College intern will spend the summer at the Willowell Foundation collaborating with skilled staff and directors to enrich summer programming and assist in building capacity in Monkton Vermont. They will help implement place-based summer programming for Addison County youth, work in the Willowell community garden, find avenues for donating produce to families in need, and help in the office with administrative tasks such as managing the social media accounts, writing/editing grants, and creating PR plans for future youth programming. The majority of the experience will consist of assisting with week-long, theme-based arts and theater summer camps for children ages 3-15.
During camp weeks, the intern will work five days a week (Monday-Friday), from 8:45AM-3:15PM, throughout the summer (early June- late August). They can choose to co-lead any number of week-long camps, but we ask that they commit a minimum of four weeks of camp co-leading total. They will help plan and implement place-based programming that incorporate different themes such as cooking, crafts, games, and studies of other cultures or story lines (Ninja Training, Pirates, Jedi Training, etc.). They will not be asked to be in charge of challenging behaviors, be left alone with the group, or deal with parent communication, but instead will follow the direction of the primary camp leaders. They will assist with managing the group energy, leading games, attending to minor first aid issues, and making sure everyone is safe throughout the week, and having fun! The intern will be asked to have a background check and take appropriate training (first aid/CPR and mandated reporting).
On weeks when they are not assisting at summer camps, they will help in the garden and the office. They will pull weeds, meet and help manage volunteers, plant and harvest crops, and find avenues of donating produce to low income families in the area. Tasks in the office may include capturing quality photos for promotional materials, helping manage social media platforms, writing a blog, or helping with grants.
The intern will work alongside skilled and talented Willowell staff to learn from, and shadow their work as place based educators. They will also be offered basic professional development in on-boarding training, CPR/First Aid, and guidance through hands-on experience in the nonprofit world. They will assist in grant writing, education, and gardening and be given opportunities to ask questions of and learn from current staff.
The intern will be expected to work an average of 30-40 weeks per week, but never exceed 40 in any given week.
