Midd Works for Vermont Summer 2026 Investigative Internship

VTPrivateye, LLC's investigative internship program is a hands-on program, where college interns shadow private investigators on daily case work, and act as note takers and investigative assistants.  Interns learn on the job, helping to draft memos, drafting record requests and assisting with social media research, background checks, subpoena service and more.

Interns accompany experienced licensed investigators into the field to do surveillance, interview fact and mitigation witnesses, and shadow while investigators conduct intake interviews at correctional facilities with defendants.  We have over 100 years of experience on our team, so there are great opportunities for mentorship.

Many interns have said that they feel they have a front row seat on the criminal justice system while interning with VTPrivateye.  Interns are often in and out of jails, attorneys' offices, state agency offices, witnesses' homes, federal correctional facilities, and state and federal court.  Our college interns do real work on serious felony state and federal criminal and civil cases.

Excellent writing and interpersonal communication are essential skills and usually improve throughout the internship.  Investigative interns have been an integral part of our team at VTPrivateye for over 25 years.

If you are curious about the law, social work, sociology, and/or psychology, and want to make a difference in many vulnerable defendants' lives, this is a great opportunity to spend some weeks with boots on the ground to see if work in the criminal justice system is a good fit for you.  We operate out of a large office/loft space in Vergennes, Vermont and welcome new energy and insight to our team!
