Vermont Innovation Summer 2026 Marketing Communications and Research Intern with VtSBDC:

This opportunity is part of Middlebury College’s Vermont Innovation Summer cohort program, sponsored by the Innovation Hub. This program supports students working with companies across Burlington’s innovation ecosystem. Vermont Innovation Summer internships will run from June 8—July 31, 2026. Students will receive a $5000 funding award through Innovation Hub at Middlebury College. For more information about Vermont Innovation Summer, please contact Dana Anderson at danaa@middlebury.edu

This position comes with access to affordable, fee-based dormitory housing through Champlain College in Burlington. More information will be available in March upon the intern’s offer of employment, however students will need to accept housing by April 1 in order to secure their spot. ELIGIBILITY: Interns must have at least a semester left at Middlebury following the conclusion of the internship to qualify. This position is not open to graduating seniors.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

No coffee runs or photocopying here—just brainstorming and active engagement with our team! We’re looking for a creative intern to assist with various projects. You will be part of a remote team (we are all over the state) and you will collaborate regularly (in person as well) with Business Advisors and/or the State Director.

Responsibilities may include:

  • Marketing projects, including supervised client work (website/social media audits, Canva projects, etc.)
  • Research (industry-specific or internal, using data to assess our goals)
  • Review and improve our approach to working with younger entrepreneurs
  • Some office tasks like creating reports, generating content, and editing
  • Work on a high school entrepreneurship program (educators and high school students)

Skills/Interests

  • Strong Communication: As you’ll be working remotely and with different staff across the state, clear communication is essential.
  • Analytical Thinking: Ability to analyze, distill, and share information and opinions.
  • Passion for Entrepreneurship: You should genuinely care about small businesses—they’re at the core of everything we do.
  • Self-Starter: Ability to work independently and thrive in a dynamic environment.
  • Interest in Nonprofits: Learn how a state/federally funded nonprofit operates.

Note: This internship is primarily hybrid (you will be working out of a co-working space in Burlington) and project-based, with occasional in-person meetings and collaboration based on schedules. We aim to offer a valuable learning experience for both the intern and our team!
