Experimental Design Workshop at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST)

Eligibility: Any STEM major

Financial: OIST covers all tuition/housing/meals/some travel, Middlebury will contribute an additional $1000 that should be sufficient to close the gap and cover any remaining travel costs


The Collaborative Experimental Design and Analytics is designed to present students with thematically related research topics in the biological sciences, from organismal to molecular resolution, which represent phenomena that illustrate fundamental principles by combining scientific research presentations, foundational lectures, hands-on data collection and quantitative skills workshops. This one-week intensive course will provide opportunities for students to explore cutting-edge questions in a beautiful campus at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) Graduate University in Japan.

CEDA 2018 is designed for students who plan to pursue careers in scientific discovery based on future PhD training. CEDA will help students model the process of scientific inquiry and collaboration in an international environment where communication relies on use of the English language. 

The top 3 candidates will be invited to apply to OIST with the support of Middlebury College committing an additional $1000 to cover the remaining travel costs.
