Boston Health Care for the Homeless Fellow

BHCHP Fellowship Experience

Since 2006, Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program has been welcoming the country’s most promising young leaders into the BHCHP "family," initially through our participation in AmeriCorps/Community HealthCorps, and now through our BHCHP Fellowship.

Fellows serve as full-time health educators, case managers, and care coordinators, assisting patients navigating the complexities of the health care and social service system; increasing patients’ access to care; and providing translation services and health education.

Fellows provide services to patients who may identify as: low income; immigrant; differently abled; transgender; survivors of domestic violence and/or community violence; single-head of household; and illiterate/limited literacy.

Fellows’ service helps to reduce the barriers to care by: connecting patients to health benefits programs; providing health education services; and making referrals for support services.

Benefits & Term of Service BHCHP Fellows receive a taxable living stipend of $14,500 for a minimum 1,700-hour term of service, health insurance coverage, transportation support, and a completion award of $5,775 at the end of the year.

Fellows also engage bimonthly trainings and workshops on various topics, including food insecurity, chronic disease management, housing resources, trauma-informed care, and much more.

Fellows are also offered unique opportunities to shadow health care professionals, and explore various health-oriented career paths.

The 2018-2019 year of service will begin in early September and run through the end of July.
