Anwarul Quadir Foundation Fellowships for Economic Development

Middlebury alum Khalid Quadir ’89—CEO and founding partner of Brummer & Partners Asset Management Limited (which manages Frontier Fund, the first private equity fund in Bangladesh) and founder of bracNet, a Bangladesh wireless broadband operator—is offering a unique summer internship opportunity for three Middlebury students to experience first-hand the challenges and rewards of working in a rapidly developing country. The paid internships are sponsored by the Anwarul Quadir Foundation (AQF), which seeks to promote understanding of economic and social progress in Bangladesh.

The internships will take place in the city of Dhaka and are open to rising sophomores, juniors, and seniors, with a strong preference for students not originally from the region to ensure a true cross-cultural experience. This internship is funded with a CCI award of $5,000 to cover airfare, in-country travel, and living expenses, and will last a minimum of eight weeks. If you are offered and accept this internship, please be aware that your funding for this position is provided by CCI, and therefore you will be required to complete funded internship paperwork. 

AQF has identified several possible organizations, described below, with which students can choose to intern, depending upon their specific interests. Industries include telecommunications, banking, transportation, manufacturing, software, food production, social enterprise, and others. One of the placements will be with, and the other two will be among the others listed below. AQF will also assist with finding housing and transportation for the interns, who will live together, and provide an orientation to the city. To fully benefit from a short term experience in such a densely populated city in a developing country, the intern will need to adapt quickly to the work and living environments. The successful student therefore will be independent and resourceful, and willing to face personal challenge.
