Policy Entrepreneur

About the Organization:
Next100 is a pop-up think tank built for a new brand of policy leaders, working on the issues that matter most to the next generation.
Today’s young people are the most diverse, engaged, and progressive generation in history. Whether organizing online, protesting in the streets, or running for office, they are joining together and demanding change on the issues most central to their lives and our collective future, from immigration to racial justice to education to climate change. That’s where Next100 comes in -- we will give the next generation of policy leaders a platform to conduct original research, develop policy ideas, and turn those ideas into policy action. More information can be found here or follow us on Twitter (@thenext100) or Instagram (@the_next100).

About the Position:
As one of six founding Next100 Policy Entrepreneurs, you’ll conduct original public policy research and develop new policy ideas, working with other organizations and experts. You’ll also help build a new think tank -- everything from developing our team culture to developing our team systems to developing partnerships to developing our social media presence. We will provide mentoring, professional support, opportunities for travel and networking, and policy training to help you drive your personal policy passion. You’ll work in our New York City office. This is a full-time job, with full benefits for two years (June 2019-May 2021).

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Identify original public policy research questions and conduct rigorous and relevant research
  • Develop new policy ideas and analyze existing ideas
  • Build partnerships and relationships to inform the development of thoughtful research questions, develop relevant policy ideas and drive policy impact
  • Publish, share, promote, and advocate for your research and policy ideas
  • Find innovative approaches to share research and policy ideas for maximum impact
  • Collaborate with your Next100 cohort and support them in their research, whether that means troubleshooting obstacles or working on joint projects
  • Help build a new organization -- everything from building a positive and inclusive team culture, to building and managing systems to make us an effective team, to handling the expected and the unexpected. We’re a start up!

Ideal Candidate: You belong at Next100 if:
  • You have a public policy problem you live and breathe. And you want to develop solutions, not just admire the problem.
  • You are a rigorous thinker, committed to using policy levers to create a more progressive and fair society; and an energetic doer, committed to do whatever it takes to build a visionary, nimble, new organization that is focused on impact.
  • You enjoy throwing yourself into researching a problem, understanding its ins and outs, and playing devil’s advocate on different perspectives. You enjoy thinking creatively and practically about solutions, and discussing them with colleagues and friends. You’ve thought about how to harness different ways of communicating to engage with and mobilize communities.
  • You are excited to spend time developing concrete skills and knowledge, and to support your peers in their development. You like a balance of working individually and collectively.
  • You deeply believe that diversity of all kinds—of life experience, of background, of skills, of knowledge—makes us stronger, and you want to build an organization that lives that value.

Salary range: $55,000-$75,000

Qualifications:
You are passionate about an issue focused on the next generation. You may have some experience with this issue already -- whether it’s professional, personal or academic -- that is informing your interest and your thinking.

Commitment to Diversity and Equal Opportunity Employment Policy:
Next100 is committed to building an organization, supporting leaders, and developing policies that seek and embrace diversity, foster an environment of inclusion, and enhance equity.
We believe that differences in backgrounds, in experiences, in perspectives, and in identities lead to stronger organizations, stronger teams, and stronger, more effective policy ideas. We value diversity across multiple dimensions, including but not limited to race, color, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religious belief, disability status, and age.

Next100 is an equal opportunity employer. Individuals seeking employment at Next100 are considered without regards to race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, gender, marital status, ancestry, physical or mental disability, veteran status, gender identity, sexual orientation, or citizenship status.
