Overview

Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute (LRRI) Pthology department is seeking a full-time Research Technologist to work as a Histology Technician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL). Under general direction, the Pathology Research Technologist will perform a variety of tasks in the Pathology and Histology laboratories. Work will include grossing (trimming) in animal tissue samples, embedding, microtomy, automated and manual staining (including special staining), and cover slipping of paraffin processed tissue. Additional duties include laboratory equipment maintenance, preparing solutions, assisting in digital slide scanning, and administrative support for the pathology department. Work may also include working with animals to perform a variety of routine procedures. The individual should be willing to work modified schedule as workflows require. Individual will complete moderately complex work assignments as well as documenting laboratory work and maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, and performing all other related duties and tasks as required or assigned.



Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL).
Ability to follow written standard operating procedures
Ability to document all study and laboratory activities as required for compliance with institute policies and operating procedures
Ability to work with chemicals such as Xylene, Alcohols, formalin, and other tissue fixatives
Requires strong written and verbal communication skills, the ability to work independently and as a part of a team. Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as the ability to learn department-specific computer systems as needed.
This position may involve work inside the ABSL3 facility which may require vaccinations/immunizations. Candidates must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and wear a respirator. A Post-offer physical and background check are required. Ability to gain and maintain access to Kirtland Air Force base (KAFB) is required.


Preferred/Additional Qualifications

Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP)
Previous experience working in a histology laboratory


Salary

Salary is commensurate with experience.
