NOSQL Database (CRM) Development Internship Opportunity at Small Financial Services Startup

NOSQL Database (CRM) Development Internship Opportunity at Small Financial Services Startup
Remote Work, 5-15 hours per week

APT Fund Advisory (APT) is a small investment banking and advisory firm comprised of four experienced professionals—including one Midd alum, class of 2000—who focus exclusively on the private equity niche within the financial services sector. Our clients are some of the most pioneering and talented investment professionals who seek to raise capital to acquire and/or invest in a variety of businesses with the goal of improving profitability and pursuing growth initiatives, enabling job creation and positive impact on communities.

In order to achieve capital raising goals, our clients hire APT to approach institutional investors such as university endowments; charitable foundations; public, private and union pension funds; asset managers; insurance companies; and wealthy families, among others. The process is inefficient and lengthy, and requires a significant number of interactions between our clients, prospective investors and APT, all of which must be captured in our custom-built customer relationship management (CRM) tool.

Role
We seek an enterprising self-starter, ideally a sophomore or junior, for an internship beginning as early as mid-December, to help finalize an existing CRM database across a number of dimensions. We call this CRM our Deal Management System (DMS).

Although the position is remote, one of the firm’s Partners is based in the Boston area and is available for periodic in-person reviews if feasible. In addition, the intern will communicate by phone or video with at least 2 (if not all) of the firm’s Partners to discuss their experience, gather feedback and propose improvements. We hope the intern is able to take away from her/his experience a deeper knowledge and appreciation for solid database design, married with a real-world business application, as well as numerous deliverables to show in future job interviews.

In production for only a short time, DMS is a NOSQL style database designed/coded by a third-party developer using MongoDB. The complete code is available for the intern to digest and discern its structure.

From there, we require several important and unfinished improvements, including:

  • Inevitable bug squashing as user data is gathered
  • Development of a “mass update” feature allowing automation of certain repetitive data entry tasks
  • Development of a “mailing list” function to enable the firm’s professionals to quickly send emails via mail merge
  • Create reporting templates for client presentations in PDF, Excel, or Word format; existing templates and examples exist but the developers who created DMS left us with an imperfect solution
  • Enabling multiple “users” with distinct usernames and passcodes for a more tailored and secure viewing experience
  • Refining the database user interface (UI) for proper mobile (iOS) viewing and/or development of an iOS app (the latter not required, but if you’re open to the challenge...)
  • Other “wish list” items, bells and whistles to be determined based on completion of the above and the intern’s own creativity

APT is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, ethnicity/race, gender, religion or sexual orientation.
