Research Technician - Littman Lab

We are currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated Research Technician to join the lab of Dr. Dan Littman at New York University Medical Center. The Littman lab investigates how T lymphocytes acquire functional properties during development. These studies are aimed at better understanding how alterations in the intestinal microbiota influence systemic inflammatory processes, such as T cell-mediated autoimmune diseases and responses to infection with HIV and other pathogenic microbes. This role will be working with a dynamic and diverse group of scientists working in the areas of immunology, microbiome, transcriptional regulation, and mouse genetics. Ideal candidates will be self-driven, creative, and willing to tackle novel challenges while continually work towards process improvement.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Assist postdoctoral fellows with experiments in molecular biology, immunology, immune-nervous system interactions, and the microbiome
- Perform independent research project when sufficient skills are acquired
- Participate in laboratory meetings and read literature applicable to the research area
- Help with maintenance and organization of lab mouse strains, including genotyping
- Help with lab organization and unpacking of delivered equipment and supplies
- Perform the duties of a Laboratory Assistant as required, including recombinant DNA methods, cell culture, and flow cytometry
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in life science, with courses in molecular and cell biology
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a life sciences laboratory
- Prior experience in:
- Molecular biology techniques such as PCR, DNA and RNA isolation, and cloning
- Mammalian cell culture
- Mice handling, including: breeding, weaning and maintaining lines, tail DNA prep
- Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and computer skills
- Able to work independently and as a team member
