Hollings Preparation Program (HPP) Are you interested in a fun (and paid!) internship with NOAA this summer?
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) seeks to prepare students for career development opportunities in atmospheric and ocean sciences. NOAA aims to support a diverse and qualified pool of applicants, particularly from underrepresented groups*. Are you a college freshman with an interest in a NOAA internship and training opportunity? The Hollings Preparation Program (HPP) will prepare freshmen students to be competitive applicants for the full NOAA Hollings Scholarship in their sophomore year of college. Successful HPP applicants will be paired with NOAA mentors in offices primarily on the West Coast, including California, Oregon, Washington, and Alaska, for a four to six week period during the summer of 2020**.
Who qualifies?
● Students who are interested in pursuing NOAA-related science, research, technology, policy, management, and education.
● Students who are freshmen undergraduates enrolled in a university or community college, whose high school grade point average was 3.0 or higher, and are U.S. Citizens.
● Must be available for a four to six week, full-time internship in summer 2020. The specific time-frame for successful applicants will be determined in consultation with a NOAA mentor and HPP staff. What’s in it for you?
● A $500 scholarship and $4,000 stipend.
● Training in topics such as public speaking, experimental design, statistics, resume and technical writing, and analysis within a NOAA facility with a NOAA mentor.
● Participation in an office, field or laboratory project at a NOAA facility.
● Assistance in applying for the full Hollings Scholarship in fall 2020.

● Send a cover letter and resume to: the website listed in the pdf by March 15, 2020. Successful applicants may be asked to provide proof of U.S. citizenship and High School GPA prior to beginning their internship.
● When preparing application packages, students should highlight how their academic and career goals align with NOAA and how this opportunity will help them achieve those goals. Cover letters should be kept to a single page and be clearly written.
● Students who subsequently apply and are accepted into the full Hollings Scholarship Program will participate in a 10-week internship at a local NOAA office, and travel to Washington D.C. in August 2021. For more information, please contact Steve Copps (206.526.6158)
