Research Assistant I Lab
The Ramachandran laboratory in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology at Harvard University is looking for an independent, experienced, and highly motivated Research Assistants to assist in the study of a new mechanism of neuronal communication and proteostasis. This project uses genetics, biochemistry, electron microscopy, and cell biological approaches to understand the fundamentals of how this novel system of neuronal signaling is coded and decoded in the mammalian brain.
Job-Specific Responsibilities
The Research Assistant will work closely with lab members and the PI to learn techniques, and then under direction perform routine/non-routine techniques. The RA will process, organize and summarize data; and report experimental results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or statistical software applications or program platforms. May include some unconventional work hours, such as nights and weekends. May process orders or invoices as needed.
Basic Qualifications
College background or equivalent work experience, preferably in a related discipline. At least one-year laboratory experience required (relevant coursework may count towards experience). Laboratory experience in addition to course work required.
Additional Qualifications
Ability to perform, analyze and resolve technical issues related to mouse work. Tissue culture and biochemistry experience strongly preferred. Experiences with CRISPR editing, western blot, protein purification, or general molecular biology experience would be a plus. Must be comfortable with adapting to new techniques and approaches. Must be able to work independently in the lab as well as under the direction of the lead investigator. Excellent communication skills. Sound interpersonal skills and the ability to supervise others. Ability to work independently and display initiative to introduce innovations to the research study. Ability to identify problems and develop solutions. Ability to prioritize tasks and set deadlines.
