Health Equity Summer Intern

The Root Cause Coalition is seeking an energetic, responsible undergraduate intern for Summer 2020. In this position, interns will be given day-to-day responsibilities to help integrate them into the core work of the team. The intern will contribute to advancing the Coalition’s mission to end the systemic root causes of health inequities by providing support on a variety of projects and maintaining daily organizational routines and procedures within the office. There is a stipend provided for this position.

Note: while ideally this job will be in-person in Washington DC, The Root Cause Coalition is currently remote during COVID-19, and is flexible about starting with a remote hire if need be depending on the situation. Eventually this will be an in-person position.

Essential Job Functions
  • Conduct in-depth research projects on a variety of topics related to healthcare, social determinants of health, and health equity, and compile findings into one-pagers and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
  • Draft policy briefs for members on upcoming legislation and regulation related to social determinants of health; regularly research and stay up to date on policy, attended Hill briefings and events as needed
  • Conduct interviews with members for blog posts and other Coalition publications
  • Assist in membership recruitment process, including conducting outreach to prospective members
  • Oversee data entry and organization of existing datasets; manage some data entry for CRM platform
  • Manage several daily self-directed projects, including conducting news scans for members and social determinants updates and updating e-mail lists in Mailchimp
  • Take minutes for all Coalition meetings
  • Assist with general event planning for the Coalition’s larger events including, but not limited to, the National Summit, Advocacy Day and regional summits
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Current rising Junior or Senior at an accredited college, preferably majoring in public health, sociology, political science, psychology, or other similar subjects
  • Organized, self‐motivated and flexible
  • Attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Ability to work well with multiple and diverse groups of people
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required
  • Excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
  • Previous work with CRM is not required, but a plus
  • Interest in non‐profits, health equity, hunger, public health, advocacy, research and/or healthcare
  • Available to work full time
