Vermont Innovation Summer 2024: VCET Venture Associate

This opportunity is part of Middlebury College’s Vermont Innovation Summer cohort program, sponsored by the Innovation Hub. This program supports students working with companies across Burlington’s innovation ecosystem. This position comes with access to affordable, fee-based dormitory housing through Champlain College in Burlington. More information will be available in March upon the intern’s offer of employment, however students will need to accept housing by April 9 in order to secure their spot. 

ELIGIBILITY: Interns must have at least a semester left at Middlebury following the conclusion of the internship to qualify. This position is not open to graduating seniors.

Schedule: +/- 30 hours a week

Compensation: $4,000 stipend, some allocation for vacation on a TBD individual basis.

In-person: This position will be primarily based out of VCET’s Burlington, VT coworking space.

Housing: This position includes access to housing in downtown Burlington at a subsidized rate.

Role Description:

VCET is hiring Venture Associates to support our work investing in early stage tech and tech-enabled businesses starting and scaling in Vermont. This is a fantastic learning opportunity for students looking for hands-on experience in venture capital and startups. The roles are full time through the summer with some flexibility for vacations and occasional remote work. 

Key Activities:

  • Directly engage with VCET leadership, Investment Committee and Board members to learn the in's and out's of early stage venture capital investing, business strategy, advising and innovation across Vermont. 
  • Work with VCET leadership in its venture fund(s) formation, operations, investing process and company support.
  • Perform market research, competitive analysis, financial modeling, and customer interviews on a range of companies and sectors.
  • Learn and experience the investment screening, evaluation, due diligence, investment, and post-investment processes.
  • Perform fund operations, documentation, and closing documentation steps.

Requirements:

  • Absolute discretion and professional maturity in handling confidential company information and intellectual property 
  • Be curious, driven, humble, intelligent, and independent.
  • Excellent presentation and interviewing skills necessary. Must be proficient in Google Workspace and Excel.
  • Own laptop and mobile phone for use throughout the summer.
  • Non-Disclosure Agreements with VCET required.
