I loved working in a hospital and doing clinical research. I also got to meet and talk to a lot of people and hear what they do and how they got interested in what they do. I also got to do so much independent work.

I was trusted to work with patients throughout different trials. I was able to learn how coding can work in the real world. There were weekly speakers who taught me a lot about what type of research was going on at Harvard and across the world.
What I wish was different
I wish that I had been able to work with patients a little more.
Advice
Make friends with the other interns in the office. Always be listening and you will learn a lot about what is going on in the real world.

Patient Care Technician

What I liked
I worked full time on a general medical floor, which was a great exposure to what it will be like to work on a hospital, in a med-surg setting. I happened to get a position which was meant for nursing students and was full time over the summer with the option to go per diem (a few shifts per month) when school started back up in the fall. I also have friends who always worked per diem but picked up more shifts over the summer.
What I wish was different
I wouldn't change anything about my experience, I feel extremely lucky to have had this opportunity.
Advice
Nursing students: I would recommend looking into CNA positions for the summer starting around March. Many hospitals start planning for summer students in the early spring, so it is better to be proactive. This particular position was part of their nursing student summer program, I'm not sure if this is an ongoing program. There are also job postings for CNA positions (and nursing positions, for later on) on Liquid Compass (https://www.liquidcompass.com/institutions/simmons). I would highly recommend checking out this website.
