More opportunities to learn about the impact of the projects I worked on, answering the question of "what am I actually doing and why does it actually matter?"

I liked that the company makes every intern feel welcome, and they also value your opinion when you work for them.

What I wish was different

With Exelon being such a huge company I would love to see many of the different opportunities that come with Exelon.

Advice

Don't be afraid to ask questions if you don't understand something because they love questions. They want you to excel at you work position and help you find out what ever information it is that you need if they don't know.

Electrical Engineering Intern

What I liked

I found the opportunity to experience many different facets of the company in various departments to be incredibly beneficial. Additionally, the chance to travel into the field and interact with linemen, FET's and Engineers offered me a better perspective of the company and their mission. Working on projects to improve the reliability of infrastructure in field in an effort to minimize customer outages was a primary focus of my internship and was a fascinating application of my studies. I also really enjoyed the site visits and opportunity to tour substations and multiple facilities across the company.

What I wish was different

I really enjoyed my time with Exelon and genuinely would not change much. The internship program offered many intern events that sometimes interrupted the flow of projects and department work. All in all, this was not necessarily problematic and I did appreciate the events. However, having a bit more of a balanced schedule could be something to consider.

Advice

I would really recommend this internship to electrical engineering students looking for experience in the power systems, and utility industry. Additionally, I would encourage students to take advantage of all the events and opportunities offered by the program and mentors. Similarly, I would recommend trying to be in-person as often as possible to maximize the opportunity to learn and network in a more personal manner. Lastly I suggest connecting with your co-workers, mentors and managers and making a significant effort to expand your network.

Design Engineer Intern

What I liked

I liked how the internship really gave me a holistic experience as to what it's like being a design engineer; they gave me both the good and bad for a truly authentic experience.

What I wish was different

The internship would've been much better if it was in-person.

Advice

Always communicate with your team members, especially when you don't know what you're doing. People do not expect you to know everything (or anything, for that matter), so take this experience as a learning opportunity.
