Advice

Don't be afraid to ask for help outside of your team. Even if you don't directly work with someone, most folks are willing to help out interns.

Project Mangement Intern

What I liked

I really enjoyed being the corporate space while pursuing my engineering degree so I could understand how the industry works, and the types of positions available to me upon graduation. FireEye had a great internship program where I was given a project and got to present it in the form of an intern showcase during my internship. This gave me visibility to other interns' projects and I could learn more about what my fellow interns were doing, as well. I had a manager that advocated for my development and taught me how to market myself and how to think about industry issues.

What I wish was different

Advice

One piece of advice I would share would be that in university, don't be picky about the types of positions you get as an internship. I was a biomedical engineering major that took a project management internship, and this has taught me more than I thought it would. Project management is a universal skill that transcends multiple industries, and having work experience in general is beneficial when trying to acquire a full time job upon graduation.

Amazing atmosphere and people. They put everything into making sure you both enjoyed yourself and learned a lot. I loved too many things about this internship to put down into one box.

I wish it was longer because I just didn't want to leave.

Be ready for your interviews. Know a lot about the employer and the role you're interviewing for.

What I liked

It was great to get some hands on experience with industry tools. It was also awesome to get experience working with an industry leading company.

What I wish was different

I wish they had given more opportunities to learn. They seemed to give me a basic role and since I wasn't going to be there very long, they didn't seem to be willing to let me continue to learn.
