What I liked

This was a fantastic summer experience! We spent all our time outdoors, which was fantastic. We were doing work on trails and ecosystem restoration, so we got to see different parts of Colorado and truly make a difference through our physical work.

What I wish was different

Obviously, this summer looked a little different due to quarantine. Much of our training was online. It was tough to be online for the full workday. Otherwise, I really loved this experience!

Advice

Try to prepare beforehand. You will be expected to lift heavy tools and do manual labor, so it is extremely helpful to be at a high level of fitness.

I loved the on job training and the group dynamics. I learned a lot, worked hard, and was paid to camp.

What I wish was different

I with I had more time to work, a longer summer.

It is hard word outside in the summer heat.

What I liked

I was basically payed to camp. I was also operating a chain saw. I guess what I loved most about this job was working out side.

What I wish was different

I wish the job never ended. I was having such fun and making great friends.

Advice

The experience is great, and they are always looking for new corp members. if you love to be outside and work, try it out. You can build trail or operate a chainsaw.

Land Conservation Crew Member

What I liked

I enjoyed that support I received from management before, during, and after my term. All of the office staff were amazing at troubleshooting when it came to crew problems in the field. Working outdoors with my crew was one the the most amazing things I have ever experienced. I truly feel that I made a difference for the environment in the mountains of Colorado Springs. I loved the sense of community and belonging while completing my term. And I look forward to working with Mile High Youth Corps again in the future.

What I wish was different

Advice

This experience is not for anyone who isn't willing to constantly work hard as an individual and be a strong team player who is cooperative and encouraging. It is important to have confidence and passion for the environment as well as a positive attitude and attention to detail. If you are considering this position, I strongly encourage you to go for it.
