My supervisor was amazing and helped me to not only comprehend the depth of what EM does but afforded me the opportunity to explore the roles of other departments and associated agencies. I couldn't have asked to get any more out of my position than I did. They were also extremely flexible with my schedule and offered a variety of training/certification courses intended for actual employees.

Ask to tag along or sit-in on all meetings possible. If you aren't exactly sure of what you would like to do in the future, NYCEM offers a host of options for you to explore while still fulfilling your role within the agency.
