NiSource, Inc.

Accounts Payable Intern

May - August 2023 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

In my time at NiSource, I met a lot of really good professionals and had a great experience. In Accounts Payable, I gained experience with AP, and with Supply Chain. I really enjoyed learned about how all the different business units interact. The people were very nice and supportive. I never had issues with any of my coworkers or supervisors. They were super helpful!

What I wish was different

Nothing actually. It was a great experience and a great company. I wish I had longer to work.

Advice

Be open to learning. The more open you are to learning, the more successful you will be. Network as much as you can. You will learn a lot of very cool things if you are open to meeting and speaking to others.

Gas Field Engineering Intern

May - August 2023 • Toledo, OH

What I liked

I enjoyed being able to make connections with people internally and externally. NiSource works very closely with several other firms, which added a unique aspect to the internship experience. Also, the program allows you to communicate with executives around the company, both in and out of your department.

What I wish was different

I wish that I would've been able to entirely take on my own project. I was never able to see something from start to finish, due to longevity of projects within the industry. Fortunately, I was exposed to a little bit of everything and was able to help on several other projects.

Advice

Make sure to ask questions to increase your understanding of the work.

Human Resources Intern

June - August 2020 • Columbus, OH

What I liked

I was able to gain cross-functional HR experience and sit in on meetings for different teams. The internship program was well-structured and offered weekly networking opportunities and professional development workshops. I had a leader and an advisor who supported me and helped me gain exposure to different areas of interest.

What I wish was different

I interned during the summer of 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, so my program was virtual. If I could change anything it would be that the program was in-person; however, given the circumstances, I think NiSource made the safe and smart decision. The program was very well-organized and I still was able to learn so much!

Advice

Don't be afraid to speak up! Take advantage of your time at NiSource by familiarizing yourself with the company's culture, you will quickly learn how much your input and your questions are valued.
